Local Transport

Once you've arrived in the Chamonix Valley you'll find a good network of local buses and trains to get you get around.

Chamonix Buses

The local bus network in Chamonix takes you from Servoz and Les Houches all the way to Le Tour at the far end of the valley, near the Swiss border. Buses run from around 06:45 to 20:30 and after that there’s a separate night bus service ‘Chamo-nuit’. The night service runs regularly in peak seasons and in the off seasons you need to call the day before to book it. In winter there are additional ski buses and in summer there are specially adapted bike buses. Take a look at the Chamonix bus timetables for more information.
Travel on the buses is free with your guest card (carte d’hote) which we will give you on arrival at your accommodation.

Chamonix Trains

The Mont Blanc Express Train is Chamonix’s local train service and operates from Martigny in Switzerland, through Chamonix and out to St Gervais le Fayet at the other end. At this point you can hop off the train and join connections to Geneva or on to the TGV. Find more information and timetables for Chamonix trains. Travel on the train is free between Vallorcine and Servoz with your guest card (carte d’hote) which we will give you on arrival at your accommodation. For train travel past Servoz or Vallorcine you will need to buy a ticket for the full length of the journey.
You can also get on the Tramway du Mont Blanc in St Gervais. This is one of Chamonix’s iconic tourist attractions and takes you up and over the mountain to the top of Les Houches and on to the Nid d’Aigle. In Chamonix centre you can get on the other iconic Montenvers Mer de Glace Train which takes you to the end of ‘Mer de Glace’ glacier and ice caves. Tickets for these two tourist trains need to be bought separately, or they are included when you buy certain lift passes
